What should I expect on a Swim Wales Training course?

Swim Wales Training & Development Team, offer a comprehensive and wide ranging portfolio of courses for aspiring aquatic volunteers, teachers, coaches and officials. Please see below a selection of our programme.

Swim Wales is an Approved Centre for the Swim England Qualifications and also the Institute of Swimming Coaching Courses. Swim Wales courses offer the highest quality training to become a swimming assistant, fully qualified swimming teacher or complete your aquatic coaching and volunteer courses.

How much is a course?

A Level 1 Assistant (Swimming) qualification is £350 & a Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification is £650. This cost includes all your registration and assessment costs, all tutor fees and includes all course resources needed. We are now able to deliver Combined Course where you can complete your Level 1 and Level 2 at the same time for a reduced cost of £950. Please note that we may be able to offer these courses at a reduced cost due to virtual delivery programmes, during the ongoing Covid pandemic.

Where can I find a course near me?

We recently expanded our programme due to a tutor recruitment and appointment process, so please check the website to keep updated. Please see relevant link below:

I am worried about the level of writing and theory work on the courses, and not sure I can do it all.

Our tutors are recruited and trained to be able to create the best learning environment for all people on all our courses. We understand that people learn at different rates, and that not all learners learn in the same way. Our courses will ensure we find out how best you learn and our tutors will adapt the courses to suit your style of learning.

If you have any specific learning needs or just have a concern, please contact the office prior to booking on a course.

What will I learn on the course?

The Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Assistant (Teaching) and work alongside a fully qualified swim teacher.

The Swim England Level 2 Teacher (Swimming) qualification is a practical qualification, which develops the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be a Swimming Teacher.

This qualification builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities developed in the Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification.  This is the industry standard to work as a fully qualified swimming teacher.

Are there any pre-requisites for the course?

Yes they are. You need to be at least 16 years old at the start of the course and competent swimmer – however, you do not need to be an Olympic swimmer….!

In addition, for the Level 2 course, you will need to hold a Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teacher) or a Swim England Level 1 Award in Teaching Aquatics (or equivalent qualification) certificated after 1994.

How long do the courses last?

Our Level 1 Assistant (Swimming) course is 30 hours, and our Level 2 Swimming Teacher is 60 hours in total respectively. These course can be delivered in a variety of timescales to fit with the various demands, commitment level and customer needs.

Therefore, our Training calendar reflects this with a variety of course deliveries.

For example a Level 1 course can be delivered 4 day intensive or over two weekends. Whereas, a Level 2 course could be delivered during a two week intensive, over 3 weekends etc.

When will I receive my certificate?

As a Swim England Approved Centre, our role once you have completed a course is to then send your work to be internally verified for quality assurance. Once this process is complete, Swim England will send your certificate in the post.

If you have already completed a course with us but haven't yet received your certificate, don't worry - certificates issued by Swim England Qualifications take approximately five to eight weeks from submission of the results. Please note that during the current Covid 19 pandemic, this make take longer.

All Swim England qualifications remain valid with no expiry date.

Swim Wales Coronavirus (Covid-19) FAQs

Our website is being regularly updated to reflect the latest advice from Welsh Government, World Health Organisation (WHO), and Public Health Wales (PHW).

We are following government advice and are continually monitoring the Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak and its impact, and doing all we can to make safe and reassure our customers and workforce alike.

For further information please go our website Swim Wales or visit the following, for guidance

To reduce the risk to all but to ensure you still have a quality experience, we are moving the theoretical elements of our courses online, through virtual delivery. The aim is to complete the practical elements of your courses at designated “training hubs” that are deemed safe to attend.

We will also be moving some upcoming CPD courses with no pool-based activities to webinars, so teachers can continue their personal development.

A webinar is an interactive online seminar that is led by the tutor and allows participants in different locations to be guided through the course content, hear the presenter, ask questions and be involved in group text discussions.
