Masters swimming is an inclusive sport for adults of all abilities, typically aged 18 and over. Whether you’re looking to stay fit, meet new people, or compete at local, national, and international levels, Masters swimming offers something for everyone. How far you take your involvement is entirely up to you, many clubs also offer opportunities to try open water swimming or water polo.
Masters swimming welcomes former competitive swimmers, late starters, and those returning to the sport after a break. Events are organised by age groups, ensuring fair competition.

Hear from the Masters Community:

Carys Thomas, Cardiff Masters:
“I got involved with Masters because I wanted to do something other than the Gym. I used to swim a lot when I was younger and I wanted to get back into it. I would recommend masters swimming to others, I’ve made good friends here. It’s also given me opportunities to get involved with things like open water swimming. Masters swimming is for all abilities and is a great way to get involved with swimming if you haven’t before.”

Helen Gorman, City of Cardiff Swimming Club:
“I got back into Masters Swimming by chance, I decided to give it a go after not swimming for a long time. I really value the routine and friendships the club has provided me. I think there’s lots of friendly ways to get into it if you haven’t been involved before, the feeling of being in the water is just fantastic.”

Paul Osborne, Head Coach Celtic Dolphins Swimming Club:
“We’ve got wonderful friendships, people come and improve their swimming, physical health and mental health. It’s great.”
Whether you swim for fun, fitness, or competition, Masters clubs are the perfect place to start. You don’t need to be an ex-competitive swimmer – anyone can begin at any age and enjoy the benefits of swimming in a friendly and motivating atmosphere.
