Swim Wales National Programme Selection Update

Swimming, Diving, Artistic Swimming , Water Polo, Education
National, Performance

Traditionally Swim Wales release their National Programme Selection Procedures in the March/April period and then selects athletes onto the programme in early September for the season ahead.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the limited competition and training opportunities during 2021, Swim Wales have taken the decision to delay the publication of its National Programme selection procedures until September 2021.

All athletes currently on the programme (National Skills Academy, National Youth Development, National Elite Development and National Senior Elite) will retain their place through to the end of December 2021 and we are aiming to be able to provide practical face to face activity in addition to virtual workshops throughout the September to December period.

The new selection procedures will be released in September 2021 and will be accompanied by the publication of a New National Programme structure which has been developed following an extensive review and consultation.

The new structure, and associated programme, will look to build on the good work of recent years, while placing a greater focus on the effective transition from youth to senior level. Detailed information relating to the new structure and programme will be communicated in September 2021 and we are confident that both athletes and coaches will be excited and motivated to work hard, gain selection and be involved in the evolved National Programme.

Athlete selections for the new programme will take place following the Swim Wales Winter meet towards the end of December 2021 and the new National programme will aim to start in January 2022.
