As a newcomer or an athlete, a beginner or an adventure seeker, regardless of your prior experience or ability, there is an opportunity to be part of something incredible. The Challenge Series offers both elite age group races and open competitions. Offering something for people of all ages and abilities, the series takes place on the following dates and locations:

  • July 31st Parc Bryn Bach
  • August 07th Plas Y Brenin
  • August 14th Llys Y Fran
  • September 04th Llandegfedd Lake

The Swim Wales Challenge Series gives competitors a chance to tour the stunning locations Wales has to offer. From the majestic Snowdon at Plas Y Brenin to the tranquillity of Llandegfedd Lake, competitors will have the opportunity to compete in a 1km or 3km race. We’ll also be bringing some team spirit to the events with a 4km Team Relay!

On completion of each race competitors will be rewarded with a bespoke Challenge Series commemorative medal and a photo opportunity. Why not aim to take part in all four events and be in with the chance of winning the fifth Challenge Series medal to make up the famous Draig Goch! In addition there will be a prize for the overall Challenge Series winner, the fastest swimmer in attendance of all four events.

‘‘I’m delighted to announce the Swim Wales Challenge Series for 2021. Despite the challenges of the past year we have seen a significant increase in open water swimming and hope to see this growth continue through our open water offer. I look forward to seeing competitors from all over get into water and take on the Swim Wales Challenge Series!’’ Fergus Feeney (Swim Wales CEO)

Included into all four events will be the Regional and National Championships where our age group competitors will compete in a 2km, 3km or 5km races. Any competitor who competes at the Regional Championships will be eligible to enter the Welsh National Championships held at Llandegfedd Lake. The Welsh National Championships will also host the GB Master Championships where our master competitors will compete in a 3km race.

‘’These events have been created to be inclusive to all our open water swimmers. Whether you’re an age group competitor, an individual taking on a challenge or part of our master community, there’s a race here for you! These events will be hosted in our S.A.F.E Cymru accredited facilities to ensure all appropriate measures are taken for a fun and safe event.’ Hope Filby (Swim Wales Open Water Lead)
