Swim Wales has issued the following coronavirus update after receiving clarification from Welsh Government on a number of issues relating to aquatic activity in Coronavirus Alert Level 2.

The latest advice on measures specifically aimed at indoor sports facilities and clubs can be found here, and should be used in conjunction with the more general current Welsh Government regulations, which can be found here.

Swim Wales sought clarification on participation group sizes and were provided with the following advice. Leisure providers will have completed their own coronavirus risk assessment and will be able to advise on capacities at each specific venue.

  •  Organised activity can take place in simultaneous groups of no more than 30 people over the age of 18, with appropriate segregation.
  • Mixed groups of adults over the age of 18 and children under the age of 18 are capped at 30 people.
  • There are no limits on organised activity exclusively for children aged under 18, although participation numbers must be agreed with leisure operators in line with their coronavirus risk assessment.
  • Additionally, there are no limits on adults supervising these activities providing this can be accommodated in the space available.
  • Carers of any person in attendance are not included in the group limits.
  • Leisure operators and those facilitating aquatic activity must take all reasonable measures to ensure physical distancing is maintained where possible.
  • Face coverings must be worn in all public places, this requirement applies to individuals aged 11 and over except those with medical exemptions. Face coverings should be worn at all times, except when taking part in physical activity.
  • For community team sports events (i.e. water polo) there are no limits on participation numbers.

Further updates will be issued in line with the latest Welsh Government guidance.
