For the first time Swim Wales will be running a series of open water training days across Wales this year. We are working with a team of qualified open water coaches to bring you a variety of training opportunities at some of our S.A.F.E Cymru accredited facilities on the following dates:

Saturday 29th May 2021: Parc Bryn Bach

Saturday 05th June 2021: Llandegfedd Lake

Saturday 12th June 2021: Plas Y Brenin

Saturday 17th July 2021: Llandegfedd Lake

Thursday 15th July 2021: Llys-Y-Fran

The introductory to open water swimming is aimed at swimmers who have no to little experience in open water swimming. This is an opportunity to understand the importance of acclimatization techniques, advice on appropriate personal protective equipment and the importance of water safety all under the guidance of our qualified open water coaches.

‘’We have seen an increase in people taking part in open water swimming in Wales and want to provide an opportunity for open water swimmers to train under the guidance of our highly qualified coaches in some of our new S.A.F.E Cymru accredited facilities. Whether you are a regular dipper or aiming for your next big challenge, the Swim Wales open water training days will be able to cater for everyone.’’ Hope Filby (Swim Wales Open Water Lead)

The intermediate to advanced open water swimming is aimed at swimmers who have experience in open water swimming and may want to compete. This is an opportunity to develop your skills in drafting, turning around buoys and building your competence in distance swimming. Our qualified coaches have experience in competitive open water swimming and will be able to prepare you for your next challenge.

All Swim Wales open water training days will follow current Welsh Government Guidance to ensure the safety of our swimmers and staff. We also recommend that swimmers ensure they have the following personal protective equipment:

  • Wetsuit
  • Swim Shoes/Swim Socks
  • Swim Hat
  • Goggles
  • Tow Float
