Intent to deliver - Festival of Swimming
Summer Festival of Swimming 2021
International Pool - Cardiff (CF11 0JS) 7th –8th August 2021 (2 Day Competition)
Wales National Pool – Swansea (SA2 8QG) 7th –9th August 2021 (3 day competition)
In addition to our previous announcement regarding the UK wide “Festival of Swimming” published in May, the full meet information is now available on the Swim Wales Website
It is the intention of Swim Wales the National Governing Body to deliver these meets in partnership with the two chosen host clubs.
These meets are currently being planned based on the current protection levels and the published competition guidance from Welsh Government. National or local restrictions may change in the future in the run up to the “Festival of Swimming” and as such meet conditions may need to be amended. This may result in a reduced number of accepted entries or in a worse case scenario the competition itself may not proceed as planned. Any decision on potential changes to conditions will be made closer to the closing date and therefore we recommend that re-fundable accommodation arrangements or travel commitments are made. Finally, the number of entries that can be accepted will be determined by the capacity of each venue as determined by Welsh Government restrictions.
Independently Swim Wales have made the decision to move the proposed dates of “Festival of Swimming” from July to August, in order to allow further changes in Welsh Government restrictions on events in Wales to be further reviewed and/or changed. Swim Wales will continue to work closely with WSA, Sport Wales, the National Sports Group (NSG) and Welsh Government to influence the easing of restrictions allowing events to take place.
If you have any enquiries please contact us at email@example.com
The “Festival of Swimming” will take place as a network of long course meets across in England, Scotland and Wales to celebrate the resumption of competition after the Covid-19 lockdowns and restrictions.
Our two Welsh meets will be taking place in long course (50m) venues over the same weekend. These events will be led by Swim Wales to ensure both consistency and equality of opportunity across the country for aspects such as:
- Entry process and management
- Programme of events
- Conditions of competition (in so far as is practical)
The competition proposed to be held at the International Pool in Cardiff will run over 2 days (7th-8th August) and will feature the following age groups: 13, 14, 15 and 16. The competition proposed to be held at Wales National Pool Swansea will run over 3 days (7th-9th August) and will feature the following age groups: 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18+. Both competitions are inclusive of para swimmers, entries should be made directly to firstname.lastname@example.org via email.
The decision to include 17 and 18+ age groups at the WNPS competition ONLY has been made to ensure the provision of the most competitive environment for swimmers and para-swimmers in these age groups and for swimmers and para-swimmers aiming to achieve Commonwealth Games nomination standards. Likewise 50m Open events have been included at the WNPS competition to ensure swimmers and para-swimmers aiming for Commonwealth nomination standards in these events are provided with the opportunity to do so. The meets will be delivered locally by host clubs, City of Cardiff and Swansea Aquatics, to spread resources.
During, and at the end of the two Welsh “Festival of Swimming” meets, the results will be collated and shared on the Swim Wales website. Later, when the meets in all three home nations have been completed, all of the results will be collated and shared, with UK leader boards published for each age group.
The “Festival of Swimming” information pack can be viewed online, in addition to the specific entry files that are to be used by clubs to submit their ‘expression of interest’. Entries are not guaranteed until confirmed by Swim Wales Event Management. Full event conditions can be found in the information pack now available online.
